Irish Heatwave: When Opening a Door Counts as Air Conditioning

If you’ve lived in Ireland for any length of time, you’ll know that we’re brilliantly prepared for rain, wind, and the occasional four seasons in one day. What we’re not quite prepared for is a proper heatwave.

The moment temperatures creep above 20°C, the nation collectively begins improvising. Curtains stay closed all day, fans sell out overnight, and suddenly opening the front door feels like a sophisticated cooling system.

For many of us, the Irish heatwave means trying to stay comfortable while carrying on with daily life. Whether you’re working from home, running errands, caring for family, or simply trying to enjoy the sunshine, comfort becomes a priority.

Staying Comfortable in the Heat

When temperatures rise, small changes can make a big difference.

Keep Hydrated

It sounds obvious, but it’s easy to forget. Keep a water bottle nearby and sip throughout the day rather than waiting until you’re thirsty. Adding fresh fruit such as lemon, lime, or berries can make hydration a little more enjoyable.

Choose Breathable Clothing

Heavy fabrics can quickly become uncomfortable during warmer weather. Lightweight, breathable materials help your body regulate temperature more effectively and can make everyday activities feel much more comfortable.

This applies to what you wear underneath, too. Comfortable, supportive lingerie made from breathable fabrics can help reduce irritation and keep you feeling fresh throughout the day.

Seek Shade During Peak Heat

The hottest part of the day is usually between late morning and early evening. If possible, plan outdoor activities for earlier in the morning or later in the day when temperatures are more manageable.

Cool Your Home Naturally

Since most Irish homes weren’t designed with heatwaves in mind, simple tricks can help:

  • Keep curtains or blinds closed during the day.

  • Open windows in the early morning and late evening.

  • Use fans to improve airflow.

  • Avoid using appliances that generate extra heat when possible.

And yes, opening the front door for a few minutes may still be considered a perfectly valid cooling strategy in Ireland.

Remember to Slow Down

One thing many people forget is that heat can be tiring. You may feel less energetic, less productive, or simply a little sluggish. That’s completely normal.

Summer is often associated with doing more, but sometimes the best thing you can do is slow down, rest, and listen to your body.

Take breaks. Sit in the shade. Enjoy an ice cream. Read a book. Give yourself permission to move at a gentler pace.

Comfort Is Self-Care

At Linnoco Lingerie, we believe comfort isn’t a luxury—it’s an important part of looking after yourself.

Whether it’s choosing breathable fabrics, finding the right support, or simply wearing pieces that help you feel comfortable and confident, small choices can make a big difference to your day.

As Ireland enjoys this spell of warm weather, remember that self-care doesn’t have to be complicated. Stay hydrated, stay cool, and be kind to yourself.

And if all else fails, there’s always the traditional Irish solution: stand in front of an open door and pretend it’s air conditioning.

Stay cool and enjoy the sunshine
